poem on room

An Open Letter To My Room

Dear room,

You are changing. Congratulations for that!

I don’t know whether you will like it or not but I am hoping that you do. We have been together for years but now I guess I’m getting tired of your old look.

I really hope you don’t mind it. I wanted it to be subtle. However, It is out of my power to do so; because, after all, it’s happening to you.

I want you to know that I am grateful to you from the deepest core of my heart!!! Yesterday night, despite the fact that you were changing, you taught me a lesson that I won’t ever forget.

During that time, I remembered your past, the times that we spent together. Your bright colors and how much fun we had going down that silly slide.

The stars on the ceiling that I gazed upon at night and wonder how they got inside. I’m truly sorry for not spending enough time with you.

Even in my absence, you went through faint changes, didn’t you? Replacement of the AC, mending of the fan, addition of a study table and the list goes on.

And now, all of a sudden, your master wants to change you. You must be frustrated at this betrayal of the person you trusted the most.

But you know what? Everything seemed normal till I realized that it wasn’t your past I was reminiscing about. It was mine. In a way, I was the room and God was my master.

I realized, as I was your master, I knew what I was doing to you, was for your own well-being. It seemed a betrayal to you for now but you will love it when it’s done.

I can feel we spent our childhood and even adolescence together and since I’m changing, you should too.

So this was an epiphany for me. I realized that one is unaware of the plans of one’s master so one should never jump to conclusions and doubt him.

You, my room, are being broken to be rebuilt in the best way. The same is the case with me. So thank you, because of you I was able to look at life through a different, more hope filled lens.

So, Happy renovations!!! I hope to see you in your new and better attire really soon.

Yours,
Roommate.
